A building materials merchant in Olo
community, Enugu State who was kidnapped by a yet-to-be identified gunmen
alongside his maternal brother who just came back from Europe, has reportedly
been strangled to death by his abductors.
The deceased, Cajetan Nweke, a
graduate of Enugu state University of Science and Technology, ESUT, Enugu, with
his maternal brother Maite Onyibo were abducted at night while they were
stepping out from a bar at Nkwo Olo Market settlement.
Crime Alert gathered that few days
after the two brothers were whisked away by unknown gunmen, the lifeless body
of Cajetan was found around 7up bottling company at 9th mile near Enugu where
the abductors directed the family having paid N1million ransom somewhere in
Anambra state instead of the N2 million earlier demanded by their abductors for
the release of the young men.
Investigations revealed that the
gunmen had allegedly told Cajetan’s senior brother on phone while negotiating that
they were bought to kill him should the family fail to raise the ransom
demanded fast. A family source disclosed that it took up to 30
minutes to untie the rope round Cajetan’s neck and body which was an indication
that he was strangled to death while his brother was beaten to pulp almost half
dead and receiving treatment at the intensive care unit of an undisclosed
hospital.
The family of the deceased was
astonished when they arrived at the designated spot only to see the lifeless
body of Cajetan while his maternal brother was writhing in pain, almost half
dead because of the beating meted on him by the abductors.
High profile killing
The deceased had his early education
at his country home, Community Primary School Ogulogu, Olo,Ccommunity Secondary
School, Olo and Enugu State University of Science and Technology, Enugu.
He was married with children.
When Crime Alert visited Nkwo Olo
market settlement, a resident who pleaded anonymity expressed shock at the
gruesome high profile killing of Cajetan by his abductors. “I am at a
loss to guess the reason for the killing of Cajetan. The ransom they demanded
was made available promptly yet they strangled him to death.
What has he done to deserve death. I
pray that the perpetrators of this heinous crime would soon be fished
out. Since after the tragic incident, the Nkwo market settlement
has virtually been deserted as most of the residents now leave in apprehension.
